Relevance of the study. The bodies and institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service play a vital role in ensuring law and order in places of detention, executing criminal sentences in the form of imprisonment, protecting the safety of personnel, suspects, accused, convicted and other citizens in their area of responsibility. The development of technologies allows us to improve the activities of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, thereby increasing the efficiency of the entire penal system of the Russian Federation. One of these areas is the introduction of modern technical means into the practical activities of correctional institutions and pre-trial detention centers designed to protect these facilities. In particular, the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia is considering the issue of introducing unmanned aerial vehicles into the protection of penal system facilities. The necessity of introducing such innovations into the security system of the penal system is dictated by the relevance of using unmanned aerial vehicles in other areas of activity of law enforcement agencies of the Russian Federation.
The purpose of the article is to consider the problems of using unmanned aerial vehicles in the protection of facilities of the penal system of the Russian Federation, as well as to develop proposals for their elimination.
Conclusions. Modern unmanned aerial vehicles have a comprehensive set of tactical and technical characteristics (video surveillance, range, lifting weight, warning devices, etc.) Their implementation in the security system of penal facilities should ensure comprehensive, continuous and objective control in correctional institutions and pre-trial detention centers to ensure security and law and order, including against the background of a changing towards complication, criminal composition in institutions intended for serving sentences (detention). The use of unmanned aerial vehicles contributes to the implementation of objective control to eliminate emergencies in the subordinate institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, creating a more efficient and stable system of execution of punishments. It is important to note that at present unmanned aerial vehicles are not used to protect penal facilities, but their use should become an integral innovative part of the security system in the near future
